The legend of Santa Claus can be traced back hundreds of years to a monk named St. Nicholas. It is believed that Nicholas was born sometime around 280 A.D. St Nicholas was admired for his kindness: it is said that he gave away all of his wealth and travelled the country helping the poor and sick.
Gift giving over Christmas can also be traced back to the three wise men who gave gifts of myrrh, frankincense and gold to the new born Jesus Christ. The three gifts had a spiritual meaning: “gold, for a king; myrrh, to one who was mortal and frankincense, to God.”
In the spirit of love and kindness (shown by Jesus Christ and St Nicholas) may we give thanks for all we have, show humility for God’s graces, have compassion for the suffering of others, give the gift of our time and warmth to the sick and poor. This truly is the spirit of Christmas.
May you be blessed with good health and a warm heart this festive season and throughout the whole year.
With love, kindness and compassion,
Issam Kadamani
